Why join?
Slopes makes it "easy as"!
Fed up with accommodation hassles like trying to find somewhere to stay at short
notice, grabbing a motel room and having to pack up the kitchen as well as your
kit? All you need to do is contact the booking officer, email your booking form
with payment. Easy as!
Don’t want to trudge through snow or over rocks carrying packs and gear in the dark
of the night? Just back your car up to the door and unpack. It’s easy as!
Snowed in up the mountain and nowhere to go? Get the best of both worlds – if one
side is closed, you can easily go to the other; if both sides are closed, there’s
always heaps to do and places to explore.
Everyone wants "value for money". We keep our costs as low as possible with members
and guests chipping in to help with the day to day duties, just choose a task on
the list - cooking or cleaning. Easy as!
Meet like-minded people who are passionate about skiing – there’s always someone
to ski or board with. Hook up with another family and watch your kids’ confidence
levels grow…
With a calendar of events all year round, there’s always something happening – from
ski club races, social events, day hikes, and more.

membership needs to be 'nominated' and 'seconded' by a financial member of Slopes,
who knows the applicant. Applications are discussed at the monthly committee meetings.
The committee will confirm acceptance of your application in writing – you will

invoice to pay the appropriate fees. If your application is unsuccessful any joining
fee paid at the time of applying will be fully refunded.
Staying at Slopes
Slopes’ location at National Park Village makes it easy if you are arriving late
– just back up to the door, find out which bunk room you are in, take your kit upstairs
and get comfy. There is always a friendly face to welcome you, a hot drink on the
go and the living area will be warm & cosy.
There is ample parking on site – there is no need to walk for miles in the snow,
in the dark. Easy as!
Settling in at the lodge
Bunk down in one the four bedrooms, each with four bunks. Hang your clothes up and
unpack your gear. There is plenty of space under the bottom bunks for storing bags.
The thermostat controlled heaters will keep you warm at night.
Men’s and women’s bathrooms are separate.
Apres ski
Get comfortable in the spacious open plan dining/kitchen and living area. Stay warm
by the large wood burning fireplace or enjoy the sunset from the deck. With the
BBQ and brazier raging, it all makes for a cosy evening. Alternatively, take some
time out and relax in the sauna.
Dry your gear in the drying room and use the workshop if you need to tend to your
gear.
Membership & rates
Slopes continues to offer great value for money. The rates are competitive and are
reviewed each year. There is an initial one off joining fee, an annual subscription
to help cover rates, insurance, maintenance etc, plus a nightly rate per person.
The rates are seasonal and differ for adults, children and non-members.
To keep a favourable ‘member to bed’ ratio we limit the number of members.
See below for the current annual sub and nightly rates.
Adult membership
There is a one off joining fee for anyone 18yrs and over to become an adult member.
This joining fee covers life time membership, conditional on timely payment of annual
subscriptions and accommodation bookings. An adult member has full use of the club
facilities, voting rights at the Annual General Meeting and can be elected to the
committee.
A special joining rate may be offered from time to time.
Children's membership
Children of adult members can become junior members and there is no joining fee
for children aged 17 and under. Junior members are welcome to assist the committee
with the club operations, Junior ski race planning and other club events. Junior
members do not have voting rights at the AGM.
A junior member turning 18 years needs to apply for membership and pays the joining
fee applicable at the time.
Annual subscriptions
Annual subs contribute to the fixed costs of the Club i.e. insurance, rates and
maintenance. Only adult members need pay the annual sub and there is a discount
for early payment. Members are advised of the due date via club newsletters and
emails. The amount of the sub is reviewed annually.

Slopes History
Slopes was formed in 1984 by former students of the Auckland Technical Institute,
now known as AUT. Funds were raised by debenture to build a lodge and a chalet on
adjoining sections and the buildings were completed in 1985. It is a privately owned
club and its legal identity is Slopes Ski Club Incorporated.
Slopes today
Slopes is a family oriented club for all ages and levels of skiing and boarding.
The lodge is used year-round as a place to relax or as a base for participation
in the wide range of activities available in the Tongariro National Park.
Members participate in off-season work parties, and with their guests, take responsibility
for meals and other duties when staying.
Slopes is well-known in National Park Village and has a sound reputation in and
around Ruapehu and with snow sports businesses.
Slopes is part of a body corporate, which includes 17 other privately owned chalets
in Park Lane. Through the Body Corporate, costs such as insurance are shared, offering
members great value for money.
